“Ugh.” Groaned the male adult, “I don’t even remember Mt. Catagma being this tall-” he added, before nearly falling down a steep slope. “or this hard to maneuver!”
And yes, this adult is in fact Andrew Lagatro; the very same person that was once controlled by Enigma. He’s also the same Andrew that destroyed both Catalya and Enigma forever.
After the Enigma Incident four years ago, Andrew has gone back to traversing unknown lands, making new discoveries, and more. However, recently, Andrew decided to explore the roots of everything – Mt. Catagma – and find out the truth behind the bigger mystery; who, and what, Enigma and Catalya were.
Atop the snowy peak of this insane mountain lived a young mage which could provide Andrew with the answered he seeks. However, a “price” must be pated to learn these answers.
By the time Andrew made it to the top of the mountain, it was already Mid-Afternoon, and the sky began to fill with dark black clouds.
“Great. Looks like Hurricane Liza is starting to act up again.” said the weary, traveling, 23 year old Andrew. While walking forward, Andrew noticed a large shack, which obviously belonged to the mage. What he didn’t notice was that, the barrier around the shack that used to be there was gone. He walked to the shack and knocked on the door, waiting for an answer.
“Hold on, Hold on. I’m coming.” A voice said from inside the house. The old door swayed open slowly and standing behind it was a long, emerald green haired boy who looked no older than 17, nearly 5’7’’, and very thin.
“Good to see you again, Krail.” Andrew told the mage.
“Krail chuckled and nodded, “Yes, Andrew Lagatro. A pleasure to see you again…” Krail looked around suspiciously, and then back at Andrew, asking him, “It is Just you, right?”
Andrew had a slight solemn look on his face and monotonously answered, “Enigma is dead, Krail. Both Enigma and Catalya are. I killed them both myself.
Krail nodded and sighed a heavy sigh of relief. “Finally… the wrath of the two demons has been put to a permanent halt.”
“That’s what I came here for, actually.” Remarked Andrew to Krail’s statement, and continued, “I came to learn about the past legend of Enigma and Catalya.”
Krail bit down hard on his lower lip, slightly causing blood to excrete itself from the skin, and then moved out of the doorway. “Please… come inside.” Andrew walked into the house and looked around. The inside was very… crimson colored. The walls were lined with historic icons that dated back nearly 5,000 years before the start of recorded time.
Krail walked to a door at the back of the house and opened it, revealing a stairwell that went down into the darkness of the basement. “Follow me… All your questions will be answered down here...” said Krail, as he walked down the stairs. Andrew followed close behind, slowly. While walking down the stairs, Andrew noticed the transition of change in the style of the walls – it went from a Crimson color, to a dark brown, worn-out color; almost as if it had been painted a couple centuries prior to today. They also had massive cracks in them, some small, some actually looking like they could bring down the whole base of the wall. As Andrew went further down, he noticed strange symbols and pictures engraved into the wall. It depicted a battle scene – Two people were floating in the sky, attacking people on the ground.
When Andrew and Krail finally made it to the bottom of the stairs, it was pitch black, way more dark then the raging, stormy sky outside. Krail walked over to a wall and flipped a switch. The old overhead light flickered for a bit, probably from being off for so long, but finally turned on completely. The majority of the basement was illuminated, the only part staying in the darkness was an area sectioned off by a large veil of blackness. Andrew stared ahead at the back walls in shock and awe. The back walls were plastered with ancient scriptures, large slabs of stone with people and pictures plastered on them. One slab, however, stock out – it was the depiction of two guys wreaking massive havoc on the ground below, with a meteor storm formulating behind them, ready to impact the ground and obliterate everything within the radius of the blast. Confronting those two men was a shorter man that looked like Krail, except for the noticeable differences – the man had long black hair that nearly went down his back, waving rapidly in the distance. Andrew studied these panels vigorously, but was clueless to what it all meant.
“I don’t get it… What does this all mean?” Andrew questioned. He looked at Krail, who just stood there and shrugged cluelessly.
“Perhaps I could be of some help” said a mysterious voice from behind the dark black veil on the other side of the room. “Come closer, child.” The voice said again. Krail nodded at Andrew and turned on a switch, which started to illuminate the blackness that covered that side. As Andrew was walking over there, he noticed that the voice had come from an Old man, sitting in a chair. This man looked like he was in his late 90’s-Early 100’s, with long black hair, spiky and wavy. He was also very thin, but not as thin as a person of his age would be. Basically, he was an older version of Krail.
Andrew stopped in front of the elderly man and say down, watching him. “I am the Great Mage Derxwna. I must recommend you listen to the tale I tell you without interruption, as I am very old, and could lose my place in the story very easily. And before you ask young one, I am nearly 5,320 years old. My great great grandson, Krail, is 237 years old.”
Andrew’s eyes nearly shot out of his head in shock, and turned his head to Krail in complete shock. “It’s true, us Mages can live to an average of 10,000 years of age. The “Mage” part doesn’t just relate to our abilities, it’s our bloodline’s last name. As mine is Krail Mage Rigatro, my great great grandfathers’ is Derxwna Mage Rigatro, otherwise known as The Great Mage.” Andrew was fully stunned, and at a loss for words. Krail continued by saying, “He’s known as the Great Mage because of the amazing feat he accomplished that nobody else in our bloodline could accomplish - the first defeat of Catalya and Enigma nearly 5 millennia’s ago.”
Andrew turned back to Derxwna, as Derxwna nodded at Krail, continuing, “Indeed, it’s all true, but now for the tale… My story is a long one, a tale that spans nearly a millennium. It’s about the demon brothers, Cataralania and Enigmataka, otherwise known as Catalya and Enigma. This story is their human life, and the chaos they wrought upon my people and time…”
